from p. 16 barrons, 12-1 -97 " cable operator have to upgrade their systems for two-way traffic....." ."these system upgrades cost plenty , averaging as much as $1,400 per subscriber" and how about the cost of a" cable modems at $400- $500..."
does Westel have a cost advantage over the above $1800 plus expeditures ? also the article mentions that only 50,000 homes have signed up for cable modem services and that cable companies in general all ready have high debt loads. any comment?
thanks, emily303
