Fleck is one of the greats.

I watch CNBC and Gloomberg in the morning for kicks and to get a feel for how markets have done overnight. Very few of the talking heads make an impression. Faber appears occasionally, but the vast majority pass through as a silvery, mentally fast-forwarded blur......yap, yap, yap.

This post is a followup to my earlier comments regarding "on the ground" activity in Thai gold shops.

Today, as I rode by a couple of gold shops, the ever present "rowt dhit" (I.E. traffic jam) gave me a leisurely view thru the glass walls that typify Thai gold shops.

Today, foot traffic at the shops appeared light.

Then latter in the afternoon when I caught sight of a TV, there was another interesting news clip regarding the local gold shops. The gist was that now there was a lull in buying and a minor upswing in sales back to the gold shops. The interesting point was that the volume of sales to the gold shops was said to be quite minor in comparison to the earlier purchases. Also, it was said that recent purchases had tended towards bars and boats (see page 6 of pdf) while sales back to the shops tended to be of minor jewelry items. For those interested in how gold bullion is actually sold to the consumer in Thailand, you can view the referenced PDF. Many of the items seen in the PDF are actually still actively traded.
