There is no proof that a high debt load has all of the negative effects you claim. True, it can be a drag on growth, but there are other things that are far worse. Like austerity before a recovery. We have ample proof of that. We had it earlier, but the followers of Friedman claimed we weren't looking at the data right. But since Europe has followed Friedman's ideas straight into recession and/or outright depression, a rational person would re-examine their thesis.

An irrational person would just claim it isn't really happening. Much like yourself...

The National Debt is a major drag on the economy, just like it would be in any household having to making massive interest payments.
