Not sure what it is with liberals but you guys seems to have a propensity for ad-hominem attacks. Sometimes the facts just eat you alive, don't they?

Hi Alighieri; Re "small tragedies" and cowardly Democrat senators;

So you do agree that the Texas explosion was no big deal? Good. I think it was Stalin who said it best "one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is just a statistic." In a modern age dominated by mass media the situation is worse than ever. Our political system is governed on the use of mass media to create mass fear and allow politicians to attain and maintain power.

One of the Democrat senators who voted against the gun grab was from Montana. After millions were spent asking people in Montana to put pressure on her to vote for the bill, she ended up with 7 phone calls against it for every one call in favor. She voted with what her constituents wanted.

It doesn't matter what the "majority" wants, what matters what the people who care about the issue want. In the US there may be a majority in favor of more restrictions on gun ownership but they don't care as much about the issue as the (perhaps) minority who fight against it. The result is that the people who care the most get what they want.

Something similar happens in the opposite direction on abortion. The majority of the public would outlaw abortion after 3 months or so, but the vocal people in favor of all abortion apparently outnumber the vocal people against all abortion. The result is that abortion is legal in the until the baby starts breathing on its own (if then).
