I have seen this many times before and it usually always goes up to the expected price. ANy thoughts?

I would never expect the stock to go up the expected price. Even after a deal is announced.

For example, it was recently announced that Sony would buy Telemundo at 44. The latter is still just trading at 41 and change. Uncertainty -- particularly with the rumor status of the ASND situation -- plainly calls for a discount.

Craig: absolutely. Rumor appears to be coming from a single source and traders are wary. Spoke to a friend at CPQ this a.m. who said no way in hell. Another friend at LU said sometime back that they do want to be preemptive and not let CSCO or NT steal a march on the coming consolidation in networking. We'll see. When in doubt, do half.
Go CYNI. Go CIEN.

>>>If this rumor is true that Lucent wants to buy ASND and ASND is holding out for $40 a share shouldn't the price jump more than this?<<<

Only after a formal announcement.
