100% agree -- the article was thin on the deeper questions -- but it does point to the price issue at the level of the individual procedure -- what drives those costs higher is not addressed. Anybody who has tried to navigate the endless labyrinth of the insurance system knows how bad it is. It is like the tax code -- warped beyond repair. But is serves special interests to keep both the medical insurance system and the tax code as convoluted and inefficient as possible. Simlified universal care would rip the lungs out of this system -- and to defend the current stupid system is easy -- just cry on and on about how the bad ol gubermnet is trying to take it over.
