One way to install malware on your computer is to attach it to a program like Flash and have you install it. If you want to upgrade, I would bypass the website requesting it and go directly to Adobe's website for the upgrade. If the offending website requests it again after you upgraded, you know what that means.

And just to reaffirm what Qualified Opinion said, always be sure to upgrade to the most recent version of the player through the Adobe Player Download Center to take advantage of security updates and to avoid any unwanted malware/spyware/viruses from infecting your system that could occur if you were to try to upgrade from a nefarious 3rd party source.
