I think that's idiotic. There are no "debates" on SI. What I've seen on the unmoderated threads are people who will never agree, staking out their positions, not listening to each other, and frequently calling each other names.

That's just unpleasant insanity. Life is short- why would you spend it with people who don't like you, don't respect you, and just want to argue the same things over and over again? Talk about a mobius loop of unpleasantness.
