I think the historical record should not be changed. They're simply making up excuses to change historical data. And gosh, the changes come out like this: Wow, what a coinicidence ... all the old records needed to be reduced by 1-1.5 degrees. Amazing. And that's just what is needed to change a downward trend to an upward one: Don't kid yourself. That IS what they WANT to do. They are "finding errors" and "fixing them" to give the result they want.
