Re "Path to citizenship" :

- A legal migrant comes to the US on a work visa - H1/L1/whatever.
- after a stay of approx1 year, the migrant contacts an immigration attorney, and files an app with DOJ/INS for "adjustment of status" - this means he/she can not be deported, because that request for new status is "under review".
- Now starts the fun & games : The new status request comes to INS, they say no. The applicant files an appeal, against the INS judgement. This make a few iterations.
- Typical timeframe for the the above to complete is 8-10 years.
- If successful, the migrant gets the coveted Green Card (Pink in Color)

- then starts the 5 year wait time + 1.5 yrs for citizenship to be successful.
