Oh Dennis - you simply cannot make that stuff up. Fortunately we do not live there - so they can own their own economic ruin. I do note - on CNBC NY is advertising themselves as the New NY - tax cutters! I guess they realize at least in some aspects of policy they have too energetically embraced idiocy.

Bob

GOP Legislators, Pickens Trying to Advance LNG Trucking in New York
by Bryan Schutt SNL Daily Gas Report
April 25, 2013

Excerpts:

Shale drilling may not be able to gather much support in New York politics, but LNG trucks appear to be gaining traction with state lawmakers...

...Maziarz's legislation, S 1119, passed the state Senate on March 26 with three no votes. Whether it will pass the Assembly, which has led efforts in the state Legislature to ban shale drilling, remains to be seen.

LNG for NY is a group dedicated to bringing liquefied natural gas (LNG) to New York State for use as a transportation fuel.
lngforny.com

Excerpt:
In New York State, there is a blanket moratorium on using liquefied natural gas ("LNG") as a transportation fuel. This moratorium makes New York State less competitive than other states because it prevents the use of a cleaner, cheaper fuel alternative. In fact, New York State is THE ONLY state in the US to not allow LNG to be used as a transportation fuel.

New York State's Moratorium on using LNG as a transportation fuel is perplexing. Compressed natural gas ("CNG") vehicles, which use natural gas that has been compressed rather than liquefied, are allowed to operate and fill up anywhere in the State. In fact, New York State incentivizes the purchase of CNG powered vehicles by providing vouchers to cover the incremental purchase price of a buying a CNG powered vehicle. While New York State pushes drivers into CNG powered vehicles, they will not even allow drivers to use LNG powered vehicles within the state. By allowing natural gas to be used in its compressed state only, New York State is excluding a fuel source which has the potential to revolutionize the trucking market in the State.
