Nice story. Not the same one as history presents, especially in regards to the Irish immigrating to New York. Read up on the conditions they were forced to live in and the jobs they were forced to take if they wanted to feed their families. All of these people were "let in" without skills, money or means. Being an Irish American police officer in New York is so cliche these days, but truth be told it was a job way back then that no one wanted. Dangerous and little rewards - many were killed. Same for firemen. Dangerous and little rewards with the same risks. My grandmother is over 100 and still kicking...and still telling stories. The same ones I have heard all my life, and all corroborated by other people from back then that lived and were there. Are you saying the process today is just as easy for someone from Mexico to legally immigrate here as it was in 1880? Or 1920? Or do you think it is easier - or harder?
