I remember struggling with 7th grade English as well. It took until Sophomore year to get caught up. In reality I never caught up in school, only later in life when I began writing.

My Algebra 1 teacher was good but penalized me for not being able to identify as many steps to the math problems as she wanted. My Geometry teacher put me to sleep and that was the end of my educational excellence in math. I got college credit in Calculus, but knew when to stop.

The public school system in my town is in the top 25% nationally, and was then too. The fact that it was so poor relative to what it took to succeed in college and life makes me wonder how bad it really is.

If the public education is not preparing people to succeed then it must be preparing them to fail.
