The reason you think scientists do their work for money is because that is how you think. It is called projecting.. You cannot conceive of someone who would prefer an idea over money.

I would recommend you read a biography of Einstein. Other than wanting enough money to stay alive he was always thinking about the universe and trying to understand the "mind of god".
