He did recognize and tried to do something about it but was blocked by Dems....like Bawney Fwank....

Recognized it first, regulated the excesses of the banks and lending institutions second. There were people at the time warning of an impending financial collapse...Rogoff, Roubini and others warned of it. Bush wasn't even in the ball game and members of his administration who might have known were all anti regulation ideologues. He may not have caused it completely (although he encouraged the "ownership society"), but he sure as hell didn't do anything to prevent it or make it a lesser event.

It happened on his watch and the buck stops with him...as did 9/11, another failure to which he responded with yet another massive blunder, Iraq.
