Libertarian activist and Internet talk-radio host Adam Kokesh is planning to lead a July 4 gun-rights march on Washington with protesters carrying loaded rifles, an event he says will put the Second Amendment to the test "in the land of the free." More than 1,000 people have signed up on the event's Facebook page for the " Open Carry March on Washington ," which Kokesh described as "an act of civil disobedience, not a permitted event." According to the event description, protesters will meet at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and march across the Memorial Bridge into Washington. They will continue down Independence Avenue and around the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court and the White House before returning to Virginia. "We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny," Kokesh said on the event's Facebook page. While Virginia permits open carry, it's illegal in the District of Columbia to have a gun outside the home. D.C. police and U.S. Capitol police didn't immediately return phone calls from MSN News inquiring about how such a protest would be handled. In a Facebook update Monday, Kokesh said "there will be coordination with DC law enforcement prior to the event." Kokesh is an Iraq war veteran who has taken part in several anti-war protests. He hosts an Internet radio program called " Adam vs. The Man ." "This will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent," Kokesh wrote on Facebook. "Should we meet physical resistance, we will peacefully turn back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington, & returning with the resolve that the politicians, bureaucrats, & enforcers of the federal government will not be welcome in the land of the free."news.msn.com
