Prior to your grain of salt no pun intended i am sure you are aware that old 49 called BGO also saw this down slide in gold some time ago.

I agree - I argued with "Ole 49r" re Bre-X from the top right down to the end. $00.00 I think Ole 49r still thinks the gold is there. Interesting that I am getting the same sort of responses when I just point out, in a friendly manner that BCMD has the same sort of thread going - claims of stock going to very high prices etc. (very emotional thread when value is questioned).
Anyway, I still like gold and think that when inflation caused by the printing of a ton of paper money to bail out all the messy Asian situations ripples through the economies - we might see a real turn. Deflation looks possible - but the history of governments in modern times is to opt to open up the printing press when the squeeze is on; and that is now IMO. Lots of contrary forces at work here to confuse any rational person. If you think only of big piles of gold being let loose - yes - it looks bad for the price. But think of Mr. Everest size piles of paper - with only someones word behind them. History tells me which pile I would like to own, in the end. Meanwhile it will be a painful, twisting journey. Now - I can't help myself - had to pick up some shares in what I think are some bargains in gold stocks. I am willing to hold for a long time in some cases, as potential ROI looks very good over next few years -given any normal gold price pattern. Of course if gold goes down way more and stays there - I lose.

Bre-X is one thing and EMU is quite another. A person may be wrong now and then. But it is unwise to generalise on the basis of one apparent miscall. BTW, there is a Russian proverb which says, "Trust, but verify."

BTW, did you know that Barrick pulled out of all their Indonesian operations in Kalimantan (where Bre-X was) with the exception of their joint venture with Yamana whose property lies to the north of Bre-X's Busang? Yamana did find gold (1.4 to 2.0 g/ton; the analyses were done by an independent group)! And Barrick decided to hang in there. Check with Yamana if you wish. Trust, but verify!
