>>>Or, instead, become an employee of AT&T, IBM, Microsoft or Oracle and relax, collect your stock options and go fishing on weekends.<<<

Huh?

Perhaps you are too young to recall the huge layoffs in fairly recent memory at IBM and AT&T. Were those employees relaxed?

I have never thought of Oracle as a relaxed place. They also had so layoffs at one point, though nothing as large as IBM or AT&T as a percentage. I think only about 10%.

As for Macrosoft, I think they don't go fishing much. I hear from friends there (yes, I have some) about sleeping under desks, though.

As to options, Dan has pretty thoroughly covered the problem there (10 billion in income vs 28 billion in outstanding options needing funding.) I'm still looking to see how that works out. Meanwhile this is not the time for Dan to keep his promise to buy the stock, as somebody teased him, assuming he ever said that. PC sales are way off this xmas as I have heard it.

BTW, anybody really have any good figures on PC sales? Is it unit volume or dollars alone that are off. Unit volume being off eventually translates to less work for Chaz the programmer.
