Doug,

Trying to pick one a week is probably too much for all of the team's volunteer efforts - I've been amazed at how long you all have been trying to make that schedule! I'd be perfectly happy with whatever frequency you and the team decides on...maybe just when there's a screamer out there that can't be ignored! Or maybe separate "blenderized" stocks from you when they come up, and added FA from the FA folks when one has both TA and FA really together. Whatever works best for you all is best for us readers, I think, because then the work won't be unsustainably stressful and time-consuming. Let's face it, we have to work to a schedule for our employers, and you shouldn't have to do the same here!

Anyway, thanks to the entire DIS team for everything so far, and for whatever you choose to share in the future. You've made things a lot better for me than they were before!

Bev

If It Ain't Broken....

>>>I am not upset at anyone. Ben is fine. I'm used to his impatience from several other stocks. I have 3 months as a short-term horizon and he has 3 days as his.<<<

Doug:

You are the SOUL of ths Great Thread...

The original concept was to locate companies that had a good blend of TA and FA... They don't always come along every week...

I think there was an unfair burden on you and the DIS team to magically come up with a POW every week... With all this pressure, your results were great...

Perhaps, stepping back and letting the perfect TA and FA Combos come when they come will bring us back to the original idea of the thread...

You and the DIS team have really tried to please everyone... That's impossible... Your TA and the DIS team's FA are second to none... So, we'll all keep loading up that blender, and you do your magic... And, whenever that right TA/FA combination "clicks", that becomes the pick...

Thanks again to you and the DIS team for your unselfish efforts...

Jim

Doug,
Keep up the good work. You're a TA demigod with a surprisingly strong blend of patience, humor, and tolerance. If you need some help with the next POWs or POMs or whatever, let me know.

That said, what do you think of ESPRY? Did I get my first MIMBO? A minor breakout of a MIM, maybe?

Thanks,

Rick G

Doug -- As a loyal lurker, I would actually prefer fewer picks. It is hard to keep track of all of the POWs, so I just let some go by. I agree with Jim Strauss' suggestion on how to do it -- especially given the effort that you and Sergio and Scott put into this work; it must be a burden time-wise. I also like the idea of occassional updates on past picks; you did this once on LUNN? or some POW.

Whatever you decide, I hope that you are happy with it. Please don't let the practice of a POW interfere with your best judgment and the rest of your life. It ain't worth it.

With continued gratitude to you and the other 56 contributors,

Duke

Doug: Since you have addressed me publiclly, instead of in email were it should stay, I feel I must answer a few points of yours. Hopefully I will post here much nicer then I did in email!! LOL ( cooling off )

My short term is NOT 3 hours. My short term is like that of most everyone around here, 3 to 6 days. Your short term is better suited for Mutual Funds, 3 months.
Every stock I have owned has had a differant time horizen. Some are good for a day, days, weeks, months, years. Just depends on the stock, the potiential rewards, and if something better comes along.
Yes, when I buy a stock, I expect it to go UP. Crazy me!!
I, like yourself, make mistakes. IF I, like yourself, did not make mistakes, WE would be living on an Island somehwere and not working ourselfs to the bone trying to find Good Stocks!

I did start a new thread, half out of humor and half as real. My thread is to help find those few stocks that Go Balistic! You remember Balistic don't you? MVSI
We were a GREAT team on MVSI!!!
Somehow your TA has never since liked MVSI much, but it has gone mini ballistic several times now.
I see nothing wrong with trying to zero in on BIG GAINERS! They happen all the time, the trick is finding them.
You did not join me in WGNR when it went Ballistic, I guess the TA was not showing the apx. 80% gain it did in 3 days. Oh well....
I have bought very few stocks that I expected to go balistic, and expect that I will cont. to buy very few stocks that I expect to go balistic. They are hard to find!!!!
I do not beleive anyone should be set in just one investment style. Sometimes a potientail balistic ( MVSI, WGNR,) sometimes a nice slow steady riser ( HURC ), sometimes a wait and see if it does what it should do ( RECY ), etc.. You get the point.

You, Sergio and myself have found some good, maybe even great, stocks. We have also found some Dogs! I will take credit for NOIZ, if you take credit for ??,???,??,??.....
Don't get me wrong, I know you will though, Your TA is First class!!
You know more about TA then MANY people do, BUT, you can be wrong just like anyone else. FACT!
There is NOTHING wrong with being wrong. It is a fact of life!!
Once again, I repeat, YOUR TA IS VERY VERY GOOD!! BUT, there are many other things to look at as well!!

You went on again about not being able to pick a potiential POW stock till Friday close. Your TA can see months in advance but it cannot see DAYS in advance???? I know better then that! If you really wanted to, YOU could pick a HOT Stock for any day of the week.

I will not even go into the thing about sergio and I wasting many hours on a group of your supposably TA d stocks, only to have the rug pulled out from under us!
********************************************************
OFF Topic> To Ben:

I beleive EVERYONE should set a LIMIT on how much they are willing to lose. When they reach that limit, CUT your losses and move on. The same goes for riding a stock up, at what point is the risk of the stock dropping, greater then the potiential reward? Every Invester needs to decide that!
*******************************************************

Well, I guess I have said more then I should have said, publicly.
I have also probably won the award for the most " ! " in One posting. LOL
I feel even better now, then when I sent you the email that probably has you REALLY fumming. Sorry about that! I had to get it off my chest.

I hope there is somewhy we can hold it all togather again, but some changes are needed by all of us. You, Sergio and Myself.

Doug, WE could Kick A$$ again!!

Doug R.

May I repeat a suggestion posted by someone else yesterday? I think it was Steve R. Perhaps a pick of the month would give you and others, (me, slower) a chance to catch up in between. Once a week was becoming a bit overwhelming along with the mid-week WOW. Frankly, I feel some were selling some good longer term stocks at a loss in order to try for a quick pop on the next. When that did not work out, frustration set in for which you were blamed.

Many folks as well as you work and do not have the time to watch all day, digest every little thing that is said and done thus become critical.

As I've said many times here thanks for all of your hard work. I will continue to follow your work and try to learn all that I can from you.

Best regards

Ken W

Doug, Instock and Sergio:

I have learned much from all three of you. I have met you personally and I have great respect for all of you. As a team, you have done some wonderful work together. Each of you has a talent that makes the whole stronger.

The value each of you lends to these threads literally can't be calculated in terms of money alone. Your guidance, comments, and expertise have done more than help us make money - as Carolyn said, you have taught us to fish.

Jim Strauss stated "Perhaps, stepping back and letting the perfect TA and FA Combos come when they come will bring us back to the original idea of the thread...". I agree that we may be trying to name a POW when the balance between TA and FA are not ready for such a pick. It should happen when it does. Plain and simple.

Lets keep the team (and the entire family) together. Forgive those who get frustrated with short term losses and vent their frustration in your direction. Their are many, many more who appreciate what you have all three contributed.

Instock, please reconsider your departure. Your talent and your friendship is needed here. Doug, Sergio - keep up the excellent work. Let's have a cigar and a bunch of drinks and talk about regrouping in the morning.

POW

"I will now put that idea to the thread. What frequency ..."

Doug,

That's a no-brainer: No more frequently than can be found
a) in the time that can COMFORTABLY be afforded you, Sergio, whoever else from the threads is contributing, (and Instock?--life is long);
b) with a risk-reward factor that you all deem acceptable; and
c) with a more reasonable expectation-level than is implied in the POW. Think about it: Morgan-Stanley puts out a rough average of 2 or 3 POWS (strong buy recommendations), sometimes not even one, and they own several large buildings in Manhattan filled with MBAs and supercomputers. Why should DIS be able to do more than that?
I'm sure that few on this thread can afford to buy even a token amount of the POWs. I think the only real advantage in the present arrangement was the (relative) regularity of the pick. But posters here come often enough so that if you provide a day or two warning of an imminent pick, the timing is of no importance.

Too long a message, my forte these days,
Ivan
