I'd be curious to hear the CNBC quote. It is not the first sale of PSFT's mfg suite. In fact, Green Mountain Coffee is already live on PSFT's complete suite of products. Other's were announced after the big mfg conference (can't remember name) earlier this year.

Melissa ...

I doubt it for sure and you can always find press releases at
peoplesoft.com

You are likely right that it is at least the first MAJOR sale - there may be some others no doubt. PSFT only announced MFG product in a 9/9/97 press release and then on 10/27/97 announced acquisition of Salerno.

The press release for Toyota states it is the first mfg system Toyota has purchased. Also, PSFT is making a big deal out of this because they have targetted Toyota as a strategic partner and they themselves (via PSG group) are doing the consulting. Large consulting commitments are normally done with business partners.

My guess is that PSFT wants to leverage this into more sales and is looking to enhance the product more by working cloely with Toyota through the project.
