Spinoza argues, we still ought to strive to understand the world around us, and in doing so, gain a greater degree of power, which will allow us to be more active than passive, and there is a sense in which this is a kind of freedom.

Very simple , beautiful & yet profoundly true so its no wonder you don't get it.

Of course our minds have been conditioned & determined by a 1mil yrs of evolution & interaction with the world . Culturally , physiologically, psychologically changing but only by small increments from out of a very distant past. Or if you prefer jam your original sin into your square equations , how much more predetermined & chained to past events can you get than this?

You just cant win can you? Try just reading what he says & comprehending the beautiful simplicity but great challenge he sets forth & stop being such a dum duff.
