I don't think the author really knew what he as talking about. AMD and Cyrix kow they can't produce enough chips but I think it's way past the point where they need to "re-think". They have already "re-thunk".
Cyrix is going for the integrated chip and sold out to NSM who should be able to add major capacity. AMD is trying like heck to put out more chips. Even to the point of increasing the voltage to get a little more yield. I don't think they need to "re-think"...just make chips.
One interesting think was Wal-mart selling 40,000 ACER K6 $1000 computers in 4 hours. That's what is scary to me. Seems to me that some Intel people here have been pooh poohing the sub $1000 market as a FAD...maybe this is a wake up call...
Surely our Intel can supply the chips but I'm sure there is some consternation about the markets iincreasing love of low cost chips and the lower margins they bring.
