That story came over the wires at 8:00 AM Thursday 12/04/97,
about 23 hours after the lawsuit was announced.

This whole buyout thing with ASND kinda reminds me of the Novell
situation a few months back when it was all but a done deal that
IBM was gonna buy them. Management purposely did not issue any
statement of denial about the takeovers for a few days until NOVL
popped above 10 and stayed there for a little while (from 7 &
change). Course when they finally said the company was not for
sale, the stock dropped to 8+, and leveled off at 9.

My point is that if a stock is overly-depressed, a well-managed serious buyout rumor can be just the thing to get the stock back
on track. Heck, if the share price can retain 1/2 of what the
rumor buys, then it's worth it.
