Democrats Told IRS to Scrutinize Conservative Groups May 15, 2013 By Sara Noble Why did the IRS target conservative groups? They were following orders. If you want to know why the IRS scrutinized conservative groups, look no further than the Democratic Party. The Democrats told the IRS to investigate them! Max Baucus, Chairman of the Finance Committee, is leading the investigation into the IRS targeting of conservative groups but he is one of the Democrats who insisted they be scrutinized in the first place. He wrote a letter to then-IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman dated September 28, 2010 urging the IRS to investigative nonprofit conservative groups during the Tea Party-dominated 2010 midterm elections. [Daily Caller] Now, in faux outrage, Baucus of Montana said in a statement, “These actions by the IRS are an outrageous abuse of power and a breach of the public’s trust. Targeting groups based on their political views is not only inappropriate but it is intolerable.” In February 2012, Sen. Chuck Schumer D-N.Y., together with Sens. Al Franken, D-Minn., Michael Bennet, D-Colo., Sheldon Whitehouse. D-R.I., Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Tom Udall D-N.M.wrote a letter to the IRS Commissioner asking for an investigation of all these “social welfare organizations.” “We write to inquire if the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) is investigating or intends to investigate whether groups designated as “social welfare” organizations, and thus receiving tax and other advantages under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(4), are improperly engaged in a substantial or even a predominant amount of campaign activity,” the letter read. [Washington Examiner] Reverend Billy Graham and his ministries were among those scrutinized by the IRS. The money wasted on the investigations was meant to go to charitable work and instead had to be used to defend themselves against the IRS. The audits took place after Billy Graham backed a bill to ban same-sex marriages. USA Today has a story Wednesday citing numerous liberal and progressive groups approved at the same time the conservative groups were targeted though the groups were similar. The very sketchy half-brother of Barack Obama, Roy Malik Obama, was given a speedy exemption for his organization. The organization claims to be based in Arlington, Virginia but it’s based in Kenya. Roy, Barack’s best man, has twelve wives, and is accused of beating one and seducing another when she was a 17-year old school girl. Going up against the IRS is very expensive.
