no fish in the surf up here.

there are certain halibut holes, and spots
where they catch salmon; ling cod around
the rock outcrops.

everyone goes down to the government dock
to fish when the herring run is on. they jig for
herring and use them as bait for salmon.

clam diggers are out in full force during low
tides. people do eat the razor clams (they are
a real chore to clean) but mainly they are
harvested for crab bait.

after a storm and when the ocean has produced
huge swells, the beaches are full of cockles there
for the taking.

logging has picked up on the islands so people
are feeling a little more flushed but, from the number
of new $60,000 pickups around here you'd think
this was a thriving community and it is far from it.
i just don't understand it.

other than daddy cool's (local bar) and the liquor
store, the thrift shop is the busiest establishment
in town.
