I think it more likely that INVX will buy Hutchinson.

Even though Seagate likes the vertical manufacturing model, they would then have to be suppliers to their competition, which seems to work for IBM, but is still not the best bet. In the end, I would think the money saved by making your own interconnects is minimal. This has allowed INVX to prosper till now.

I wonder what will happen to Applied Magnetics? They tried to buy Read-Rite because they needed the technology. They felt at te time that the issues of their capacity with RDRT's technology would be a good combo. Now, they face desperate times and you almost have to wonder how they can survive without being taken over.

Or, here's a good one. Samsung or Fujitsu buys WDC?
