Beneath the surface, Obama has done plenty to increase the executive power and curtail transparency and civil rights. You don't hear much of it because unlike Bush he goes about the application of these powers very smartly. But that does not change the facts nor does it prevent the abuse of power once a new admin comes in...and I am not even getting into his drone assassination program.

He should have made campaign finance reform the center piece of his work.

"All our presidents screw up this way. There are always hearings, which waste a lot of money, and nothing ever happens- except that perhaps a new committee is created to waste even more money."

(D)'s haven't really been into the hearing biz for a long time. Since Iran/Contra, which was negated by Bush I pardoning all the perps. It's the (R)'s that are constantly fishing, nowdays. I don't really recall Pelosi holding any investigative hearings as Speaker - she was too busy passing legislation. If the (D)'s WANTED to hold some hearings, the entire Bush admin. would provide plenty of dirt.
