The new testament wasn't put together until 185 C.E., or nearly 200 years after the death of Jesus. If you want to see how such a process works, look to the changes in Mormon scripture, which happened right here in the USA, was documented by many, supporters and doubters alike, in English we can read today. The Mormon church has been forced to disown or modify a lot of it's founder's beliefs, right in front of our eyes. Polygamy, the inferiority of black people, etc. The Catholic Church had total political control for 100's of years, when it could "scrub" anything it desired, or the keepers would burn.
