"The American public has completely lost the ability to assess how the rest of the world sees it. That may be ok for the xenophobic self-obsessed lot, but at the end of the day we are all part of the same world and a harm at one end of the world will eventually come back to hurt everyone."

I totally agree with this, but just think it's inevitable. The vast majority of Americans don't have a passport, will never visit a foreign country, and just don't care. Our karma is our future. The American military will plow ahead under (R) or (D) administrations, and become more and more robotic.

As it becomes more robotic, American casualties won't be an issue in most small-ball foreign conflicts. We won't even have any gold star families to weep with.

American presidents will feel completely free to send robots anywhere they are effective.
