Tom, I shorted the s&p after the Dow jumped past 100 and made another quick 3.5 pts. I traded 90% winners on my s&p trading. Again, I did the opposite of the excitment just as things were at an extreme (I forgot to mention that I also follow all the big tech stocks to monitor for market sentiment. When I shorted, they were at a high). Do I have a natural feel for futures? I think I do have a talent for trading, but futures contracts especially is painful to learn. Many mistakes are/were made by me and, again, after two years of off and on trading, I feel I've finally learned enough to put the odds at my favor. Rule 1: buy at an extreme Rule 2: don't sell in a panic unless you hit your max stop (mine is 10pts), or unless something has changed (unexpected report, etc.) Remember, you get paid for your risk- even if it is just perceived risk like at times when the market, or a stock, is falling fast for what is likely to be a short time based on overall fundamentals/techniclals not changing. At this time I am purely trading. However, it does still appear that a hybrid between pure trading and investing would be optimal. I seems buying a good company low, and holding it until it has a pop or falls more then expected would be better than getting in and out very quickly like I am currently doing. However, at this time I'm enjoying my experimentation and I'm making money so I'll keep doing it. I was burned out from my trading/investing for the last couple of months. I feel inspired again. I'm due for a really good trade. I'm been close on big trades with MIND and PETD but just missed on them. Usually my timing on them would have been better. I think I'm still a little off because of the money I lost on this Oct's crash (I had big positions on MIND and RADAF and got burned on some surprisingly low fills on orders that I couldn't/didn't cancel !). I'm still up about 50% for this year, and making marginal progress as I've been semi-concentrating on my trading/investing. Was this a journal entry? Take care ! VALUESPEC
