Because lying to law enforcement officers or officials is a crime in and of itself. You're having a problem grasping that. They could ask you what you had for breakfast and on the basis of a waitresses testimony contrary to your answer, you could be indicted and found guilty.

If Valarie Plame was not a covert agent she could not be outed.

That's the reason Fitzgerald didn't indict Novak or Armitage.

Bill Clinton lied under oath...why wasnt he put in jail ? Libby did the same and yet Billy is still prancing around like a rock star.
