Dan, I am going to use the ASND news as guide for estimating MRV's value.

Under the best condition, ASND will be acquired at $40/share, or 32.5 its 1998 earnings. Per Zacks, 1998 EPS for MRV will be 1.24.

So 1.24 * 32.5 = 40.3/share for MRVC. You can throw in growth rate for instance and make it 45-50 per share.

At $40.3/share, the total price will be about 1,1 Billion. Does it sound cheap enough?

Check Yurie, this company makes ATM WAN switches for Lucent. It has slightly less number of shares than MRV, current PE is 115 even after it has corrected about 50% off its peak. Its market cap is about the size of MRV.
