Michael, check it out! NSM (Cyrix) has proposed a $1200 system which includes a full DVD solution!

2nd generation DVD-ROM will able to read CD-R and has better multi-read compatiblity. I expect the drive alone will cost around $200 which is not that bad. Microsoft already annouced they will release Encarta Reference suite for DVD and others will follow. By mid-98, we should see major box-maker bundle DVD-ROM as standard option. We may even see HiFD too.
