Capital expenditures have rumored to be slowing for PCS but personally I think it is a good time to double up. Recent results from the sector have been choppy Datum disappointed but Remec REMC, a company with a more compatible product line, was above estimates. The main reason DATM disappointed was Trimble Navigation TRMB has recently become a direct competitor to DATM. Unfortunately, I think we are in a similar period for stocks as demonstrated from from August 1996 to May 1997 where the large caps clearly outperformed small caps because of the uncertainties to the recent Asian problems. Clearly there will be losers from the technology sector particularly in the component arena due to dumping of product on the market but I think it is generally limited to the semiconductor and computer sector and not the telecommunication component players. If you know of an Asian competitor in the group(MRM ANEN VARL REMC) I would like to know because I do not know of any. Small caps in general should have less disappointments in earnings unless their sales are directly tied to Asia and oddly enough should be safer palys than the international large caps. I know VARLs revised estimates of .14 is easily achievable I believe they will be in the .18-.20 range this quarter. I would also like to hear your comments on MIZR and the merger with LSI. Reading the MIZR and Spectrum Signal threads have been mixed on the topic of the merger. I still like the area however.
