I certainly can deny 2000 years of church history .... there was no pope in the first century or the New Testament - that truly was a creation of the Roman emporer, Constantine. He wanted an imperial church for his empire. The verse is a reference to what Peter had just said: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. What a strange line of argument for an unbeliever to make. You obviously don't care about the truth of any of the things you argue for.
