So when you are standing in the sunlight and a cloud passes between you and sun do you still feel like "The vast majority of direct solar radiation from the sun to the earth gets all the way to the ground:"

My camera often requires opening one too two fstops to have enough light for the selected shutter speed.

The camera is suggesting that only a 1/2 to a 1/4 of the light is reaching the ground.
