Memory Modules

ÿÿÿÿBusiness Editors, Technology Writers

ÿÿÿÿSUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1997--

ÿÿÿÿCompany Joins CompactFlash(TM) Association

ÿÿÿÿContinuing in their tradition of providing the industry's broadest line of PC Card memories, ActionTec Electronics,
a leading manufacturer of data communications and wireless products, announced today a full line of CompactFlash(TM)
Memory Modules. The modules will be available in 4 MB, 8 MB, 16 MB, 24 MB and 32 MB capacities. For maximum
convenience, the modules come with the option of being bundled with a Shuttle Bay(TM) adapter, enabling them to fit
into a PC Card slot.
ÿÿÿÿIn addition, the company announced that it had joined the CompactFlash Association (CFA). The association is a
non-profit, mutual-benefit corporation that promotes adoption of CompactFlash as a worldwide, ultra-small, removable
storage standard for capturing and transporting digital data, audio and images.
ÿÿÿÿ"By augmenting its product line with CompactFlash, ActionTec takes yet another step towards filling the storage
needs of digital camera users," commented Elliot Hadaegh, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ActionTec. Many
of the most recent digital cameras, including Kodak's DC210 and Canon's Powershot 350, use the smaller CompactFlash
form factor as their choice for memory expansion.
ÿÿÿÿ"The primary goal of the CFA is to drive alternate source availability, drive acceptance of CompactFlash as an
industry standard across multiple platforms and markets internationally and ensure the compatibility for users of
CompactFlash products," added Hadaegh. "As a member of the CFA, ActionTec will be able to collaborate with the CFA
to drive these goals and evolve the CompactFlash standard over time while ensuring backward compatibility."
Organization members are also licensed to use the CompactFlash trademark.
ÿÿÿÿThe CompactFlash Association was established in October 1995 as a non-profit, mutual-benefit corporation with the
premise that CF technology will result in the introduction of a new class of advanced, small, lightweight, low-power
mobile products that will significantly increase the productivity and enhance the lifestyle of millions of people. CFA board
members include Apple Computer, Canon, Eastman Kodak Company, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, LG Semicon,
Matsushita (Panasonic), Motorola, NEC, Polaroid, Psion, SanDisk and Seiko Epson.
ÿÿÿÿCompactFlash provides the capability to easily transfer all types of digital information and software between a large
variety of digital systems. Several leading consumer electronics companies are designing CompactFlash technology into
next-generation products being developed for mass markets. The CFA expects CompactFlash technology to be widely
used in such products as portable and desktop computers, digital cameras, handheld data collection scanners, cellular
phones, PCS phones, PDAs, handy terminals, personal communicators, advanced two-way pagers, audio recorders,
monitoring devices and set-top boxes. CompactFlash technology offers all of these applications new and expanded
functionality while enabling smaller and lighter designs.
ÿÿÿÿActionTec products are available through national distribution and retail outlets as well as through private label and
OEM relationships. ActionTec can be reached via the Internet at actiontec.com, or by phone at (408)752-7700
or fax (408)541-9003.
