Hi Bob, I am blessed that I was the initial recipient of the first post for your thread.... a thread, in my humble opinion which is going to be one of the most significant ones ever built on Silicon Investor.....
the judicious and more intelligent use of energy is what defines evolution... and as Physics has demonstrated to use... everything in the Universe is comprised of energy... in it's myriad and diverse states.....

best regards, Your good friend

John

  1. Hi Dima, from my initial perusal of this new feature .....it appears that it will be a significant upgrade... it will create more of an Amazon.com type experience ( also found in several other communities); in Amazon's case they have a peer evaluation system which let's the participants vote on who are the evaluators that are the best. Those that bring the most Gravitas to the topics they evaluate and review
my very best regards,

John

Led lighting is available in a store near you, and big semiconductor
manufacturers like Samsung or GE are all on it. Still a bit
more expensive than your normal bulb, but more durable. High
efficiency improvements of LEDs (gallium nitride?) made it possible. That said,
LEDs are a commodity probably worse than memory. Easy to make,
so, while the consumer profits, it does seems like this will not
be an area of wide margins for someone. I could be wrong.
GaN revolution happened in early 2000-s.

You could be right, and it sure pays to watch if someone can
make Led lghting much cheaper than others. There are some
fixed costs - you got to make 'em of semiconductors like GaN,
probably most expensive components in the light. This stuff isn't
just sand. If materials that go into bright led have relatively high
cost, there isn't much one can do to drop the price.

The bottom line, though, led light, while led, is still a light
and relatively low tech, which probably means commodity pricing.
Great invention, tough to profit off. The efficiency will continue to
improve, and your led bulb is here to stay!
