John,

I did not say that the web auction sites (speaking generically, not of www.webauction.com in particular) are ripoffs, in fact I do not believe that they are. What I said was that the BUYERS -- not the auction sites -- have a tendancy to bid the prices of items up BEYOND their fair market value. That is not, in any way, a reflection on the sites themselves, however, and indeed is the whole purpose of an auction from the seller's perspective. My only complaint with the sites is the tendancy of most, but not all, to show the opening bid price rather than the current bid price until you actually get to a particular items bid page. This causes a lot of wasted time and a lot of wasted network and server traffic, and does little else.
