Owning a car is very expensive for young people. Their insurance is ridiculously high, and with the Mcjobs available to them in the Bush Great Recession, they aren't a well compensated bunch. They don't have the experience or the credit to buy a good used car for cash, and when they have to finance, full coverage insurance is part of the deal. I see this as less of a green movement thing, but Americans moving backwards prosperity-wise due to 30 years of Reaganomics rewarding the wealthy at the expense of the less well off.
