bilow, graphs don't show is good.
the 2-1 split in 1990 was the Iraq war deal. everything went down
the stock did go from 100 to 150 quick(presplit).
the 1991 issue was the bad decision in not going low cost.
that isn't the case now. 1991 was the only time the stk fell and that
was not releasing low cost pc.

Now cpq has all bases covered
from the home appliance pc to high end tandems.
okay the 1994 3-1 split.
cpq announced at about 80-90 and it wnet to 120 and split there.
back to 40..backed up in market delcine to 30-33.
Then weet to 100...it announce the 5-2 at 100 and wnet to 200 presplit numbers..and has back down to 163...that's 63 points still plus
what planet are you on<gggg>
63.5 points with a Asian flu market since july...that's just 4+ months.
Carl, I really don't think you have been watching cpq a long time.
Carl, in 1983 the everyone that went to work for cpq got stk.
The janitor and lowest level employee got enough stk to be almost a millionaire now...there was a 3.75 to 1 split before they went public.

What's your agenda here. Are you long Cpq????
Short CPQ....what????

Splits have been very good to cpq and I suggest you get a good histroy program and tract when they announced...not when they split with would happened.
I think cpq sees that they blow away the numbers this qtr are they wouldn't have announced a split.

Since I owned the stk , these numbers are burned in my memory.
you are looking at chart..go get histroy that shows actual numbers.
start with the last split...
tell me that going up 100% in 3 months until the flu is a bad deal...
and tell me that being up 63.5% now in 4+ months is a bad deal...
let's do this one split at a time..
last one to back...
okay..what's wrong with 63.5%???? then we'll go back to the 2-1 in 1994 THAT WAS ANNOUNCED AT ALLOT EARLIER PRICE.

Bilow, your point about the stock splits is well taken - When CPQ splits 2 for 1, the price will be half of what it was before. Value is the same.

Suggest that you concentrate on the big spread sheet toward the bottom of the Value Line page. Only suckers believe their timeliness and safety ratings. The far right hand part of the chart has those two parallel lines put their by some secretary. You can move those lines around if you'd like. The secretary has a lot of fun drawing them, you can too.

Meanwhile back at the spread sheet, the top number will show you that CPQ's PSR is too high, and so is the PE. However look at the number for the cash flow. It's way cool. Back out the capital expense. And the free cash flow is way, way cool. CPQ is running a great business. Stick around, the stock price will mirror those numbers. (Oh, and if you want to have as much fun as the secretaries, take the dotted lines showing a multiple of cash flow and change the parameters. You can move it around too.) Value Line's fun if you stay away from their projections, rating system, and cross out the text.

thread, since Bilow will not post cpq's split record...
I will..actually he may not have the details..

1990 announce split at 40-50
split at 60 and goes to 68 for 51% increase.
Iraq conflict and recession puts it on hold
But 10 months later cpq is 74 for increase of almost 65% in less than
a yr after they announced split.

The only problem was in 1990 Canion won the battle of no low cost pc.
He said about the same thing Micheal Dell is saying now.
This caused the only really long bear market in cpq.
BUt, cpq released the low cost pc in june of 1992 and all the other pc stks crashed and cpq took off and hasn't really stopped.
This isn't happening in 1997 bec. cpq made the tough decisons and bot tandem and did release a low cost pc again in retail and business..they have the million dollar servers and tandems too<gg>
And, tandem gives them acct. control on corporations. Something the
Directors and vp's of I/S missed with IBM..but, we don't miss the ibm prodcut<gg> just the acct control.

1994 when cpq was about 90 in 1993 they announced a split again
3-1. when they split it was around 110-120..
In march of 1994 the dow pulled back 9+% and cpq retreated too.
But 1 yr after they split were up ,up and away on the 1994 split.
(the 10 day 9%+ dow pull back is what bilow missed. from about the 69th day of yr to the 80th day of yr in 1994.

The 1997 split speaks for itself..it's up 63% since they announced the split and that's with a cpq crash.

Bilow, talking about whether cpq will deliver the goods in 4q and 1q98 is foolish...lets' wait and see...
I do know this..cpq's 4th qtr is already made and made big. that's why mason the cfo was mouthing off firday. he looked at the numbers and they are already in....trust me..I know them.
As for inventory..there is another way to look at it..
At the end of 4q96 cpq's channels days of inventory was around 70 days. by the end or 4q97 it will be 25-30 days...
that's enough improvement.

The split record is pretty good given that they did relaease low cost pc this time and bot Tandem.

PS....I still owned more puts on cpq than you...in fact the puts i own dwarf your puts on cpq<ggg>
I put my intials in some concrete and one of their trees...
does that count<ggg>
