Why, do you suppose? Moved closer to the sun? Nope. Increased solar activity? Nope. Isthmus of Panama reopened? Nope. The Milankovitch cycles? Not this time. One new undersea volcano/ square mile of ocean floor? Nope. Decreasing cosmic wind chill factor? LMAO. Waves moving faster, increasing the heat of friction? ILSHIAPIMP.

Hi Maurice Winn; Re heat capacity of ocean versus atmosphere;

Ocean is mostly made out of H20, molecular weight around 18, air is mostly N2 or O2 molecular weight around 28 to 32. So the average atom in the ocean weighs around 6x a hydrogen atom while the average weight of air atoms is around 15x a hydrogen atom.

Result is that the heat capacity of a pound of ocean is around 2.5x the heat capacity of a pound of air.
