People get confused with regard to socialism versus communism and social systems versus political systems.

1) There is a difference between social systems and political systems. E.g you can have democratic socialism or dictator or oligarchical socialism. Russia was a sort of dictatorial socialism and China is now a sort of oligarchical socialism.

2) Communism is a primitive philosophy, and not a clear philosophy, and surely one that won't work. It was a primitive idea not though through very well as a reaction to oppression of the working class. It had good intentions, but was utopian in nature.

Social science has moved on.

3) There were many variations of communism as there are republics; and each person probably has a different idea in their mind as to what it even is.

4) What all western democracies have established today are varying degrees of democratic socialism (welfare states) depending on what the populace wants. And we keep refining them as our social science improves.

Well, we don't, but the rest of the western democracies do-lol. We seem to be going backwards. Devolving.

Socialism is an economic term and slaughtered no one.

It was dictatorships that slaughtered the people. That is a political term.

You need to learn the difference before you do any more pontificating on the subject.

Socialist and capitalist as opposites is meaningless.

We are a mixed economy.

The power of the American economic engine is the sum of government, regulation, laws and markets. Too much of any is as bad as too little.

The adults need to take the dialogue away from the dittoheads and demagogues.
