The attempt to label atheism a "religion" is just not worth engaging, it is so childish; and intellectually destructive.
Atheism could easily be construed as a religion. Communism certainly had the entirely religion going for it and was quite popular for a time.

Anything you take on faith has the early nebulous beginnings of a religion.
For Landshark science has become a matter of faith, his dogma is anything published by Al Gore.

Thus it is for the "Dittoheads" movement (that's what the aptly call themselves.) "In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination." --Mark Twain

I'll settle for the phrase "collective assholes" myself for its generally concern for their own ignorant assholes plus the place from which they pull most of their 'theories". Twain nails another one, almost beyond biblical were some his simple observations

The belief that creation is the result of an intelligent law-making God is what drove the movement to establish science. To discover and understand God's laws for the universe, to think his thoughts after him as one said.
