Al, that graph is for a family earning the median income. Of course they're going to be paying next to nothing in income taxes, though they still have to pay 8-9% for SS and Medicare. (Oops, I guess you forgot to count that.)

By the way, the top 50% of all Americans (i.e. ABOVE the median) pay 98% of all federal income taxes. If you can figure out what that means in the context of your counterargument, I'd be surprised ... ;-)
