>> I'm saying if a guy makes, say, $10 an hour, the higher compensated should be trimmed down and bonuses and perks eliminated until he could get say, $12 an hour. Doesn't really sound that insane, does it? Start at the lowest compensated and go up until the squeals of the wealthy become overwhelming.

If he is making $10/hour it is either because he is (a) not motivated or (b) the market says he's worth $10 and no more.

If a CostCo wants to pay more, that should be their right. If a McDonalds wants to pay $3.50/hour and they can get people to work for that, then they ought to be allowed to try. These are things that businesses need to work out, not government.

If government creates a "minimum wage" that says a guy has to be paid $12 (which really costs the business some multiple of that), then the business will not hire as many people for a given level of sales.

Anyone who understands the most basic microeconomics (I understood this much as a junior high school student) ought to be able to comprehend this simple fact.

Our economy could do so much better if the majority of Americans could participate in the economic growth like they did pre-Reagan. Ironically the wealthy would likely see their wealth grow even more than it is now, but the disparity would be less. It is almost like the real goal is to wind up with all of the marbles even if by sharing they'd have more.

In other words, they can only win if everyone else loses.

How many think bentway makes $10 an hour? Why else would he envy people who make more than that?
