Fred,
You are right about Cyrix/NSM marketing. Considering the PR rating and the lack of deep pockets that Cyrix had to deal with I don't think it could get a lot worse. NSM has much deeper pockets and could hire some good talent. Troubling to me is that they have hired Tobak from Cyrix.
As far as high end mobile computing is concerned I'm very skeptical.
Notebooks are basically obsolete when you buy them. When corporations consider what they gain vs what they lose by providing salesmen with a high end notebook that somehow gets "stolen", I think they will shift to the lower end. A $1000 notebook that does the job and fills the role of the "necessary evil" should devistate the market. Let's ay you are a large corporation and need to provide your 1000 salesmen with notebooks. The last time you did it it cost $2500 a notebook. Some mysteriously dissappeared and the rest were worth $500 in two years. All you really need is a modem and the ability to run a spreadsheet. At the most you need sound and the ability to run a slideshow presentation. What are you going to buy the next time?
