But it isn't a realistic point of view. If the average claim is $10,000 and you process lots of them, you're going to get a lower percentage of admin cost than if the average claim is $300 and you process the same number -- regardless of whether it is Medicare or United Health doing it. It just isn't correct analysis to claim that is a "lower administrative cost" because the percentage base is far, far higher.

And if you have some other entity do your collections for you at no charge, your cost will be lower -- although, their costs are still incurred -- they're just not counted.

I do not believe Elmendorf is a stupid person, but time and again he has allowed misleading statements to be made over his signature. As a CPA, I would be subject to a negligence lawsuit for allowing that to happen.

It is true, he has no professional standards to adhere to -- but if I were him, I would feel compelled to point that out.
