Even though the article's heart is in the right place, the first sentence is a vast understatement of what the trustees report said:

"The Social Security program faces $9.6 trillion in unfunded liabilities over the next 75 years, which is up $1 trillion from last year’s projection of $8.6 trillion, according to the latest report from Social Security’s board of trustees."

That money is not needed over the next 75 years. That money is needed today, not over the next 75 years.

The amount that is needed over the next 75 years is far greater than $10T, as the $10T is a discounted figure.
