CPQ is facing a lot more competition in the consumer market for the low cost PC from the likes of HWP, BELL, IBM and a host of no-name suppliers. Their share of this market will probably come in at 30% at the end of December. Way down from 67% in September.

CPQ is having trouble meeting its BTO channel inventory goals of 2-3 weeks. They are currently at 5-6 weeks.

Still, CPQ will probably turn in a good Q4 because the consumer business represents only 20% of their sales and the corporate market is still strong for them. Europe may also help out as they are in a business upturn.

Anyway their business problems are more complex than DELL's.
